"Cartoon Noir"

If you're interested in the "creepy broken dolls" school of art cinema, you should check out 1999's "Cartoon Noir", a neat compilation of festival favorites. Again, this is for the appreciative and informed- you have to know what you're treating yourself to, or else it's like: "These animated manequins are creepy AND boring!"

Jiri Barta's "Club of the Discarded" owes as much to Jan Svankmajer as it does to the Quay Brothers' films.

There's a short clip, "APE", that reminded me of a T.C. Boyle moment. More on T.C. Boyle soon.

But the winner is Pedro Serrazina's charming "ESTORIA DO GATO E DA LUA"
